III. A... di John Keats

Emily Mary Osborn (English, 1828 - 1925) For the last time
allora i miei sospiri entro l'avorio
di codesta conchiglia, il tuo orecchio,
saprebbero echeggiare e il tuo gentile
cuore trovare senza indugio; armato

III. To...

Had I a man's fair form, then might my sighs
Be echoed swiftly through that ivory shell
Thine ear, and find thy gentle heart; so well
Would passion arm me for the enterprize:
But ah! I am no knight whose foeman dies;
No cuirass glistens on my bosom's swell;
I am no happy shepherd of the dell
Whose lips have trembled with a maiden's eyes.
Yet must I doat upon thee,--call thee sweet,
Sweeter by far than Hybla's honied roses
When steep'd in dew rich to intoxication.
Ah! I will taste that dew, for me 'tis meet,
And when the moon her pallid face discloses,
I'll gather some by spells, and incantation.

Io grido a te pietà di John Keats

Lady in a White Dress, Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller

Io grido a te pietà, pietà, amore –
sì, amore! Amore misericordioso,
non supplizio di Tantalo, ma univoco
pensiero, ed immutabile e innocente,
a viso aperto e chiaro e senza macchia!
Lascia ch’io t’abbia tutta, tutta mia!
Quella forma leggiadra, quella dolce
lucente seno delle mille gioie;

Franz Xavier Winterhalter*Katarzyna Branicka Countess Potoka*1854
I
Più del corallo stesso del mare;
Non si aprono mai per un bacio...
Oh, amami davvero!
IV
Non stringe dolcemente la mia;
E' morta come quella di una statua
- Mentre la mia brucia di passione -
Oh, amami davvero!
V
Oh, sospirami qualche parola di fuoco!
E sorridimi come se dovessero bruciarmi!
Stringiti a me come si stringe un amante...
Baciami, e nel tuo cuore seppelliscimi!
Oh, amami davvero!
*******************
YOU SAY YOU LOVE; BUT WITH A VOICE
I
You say you love; but with a voice
Chaster than a nun's, who singeth
The soft Vespers to herself
While the chime-bell ringeth -
O love me truly!
II
You say you love; but with a smile
Cold as sunrise in September,
As you were Saint Cupid's nun,
And kept his weeks of Ember.
O love me truly!
III
You say you love - but then your lips
Coral tinted teach no blisses.
More than coral in the sea -
They never pout for kisses -
O love me truly!
IV
You say you love; but then your hand
No soft squeeze for squeeze returneth,
It is like a statue's, dead -
While mine to passion burneth -
O love me truly!
V
O breathe a word or two of fire!
Smile, as if those words should burn me,
Squeeze as lovers should - O kiss
And in thy heart inurn me!
O love me truly!

All'Autunno di John Keats

Lovis Corinth*Fiori d'autunno*1895
Mentre il vento capriccioso ti solleva i capelli;
L'ultima colata fluire lentamente.
III

TO AUTUMN
I
Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the mossed cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For Summer has o'er-brimmed their clammy cells.
II
Who hath not seen thee oft amid thy store?
Sometimes whoever seeks abroad may find
Thee sitting careless on a granary floor,
Thy hair soft-lifted by the winnowing wind;
Or on a half-reaped furrow sound asleep,
Drowsed with the fume of poppies, while thy hook
Spares the next swath and all its twinèd flowers;
And sometimes like a gleaner thou dost keep
Steady thy laden head across a brook;
Or by a cyder-press, with patient look,
Thou watchest the last oozings hours by hours.
III
Where are the songs of Spring? Ay, where are they?
Think not of them, thou hast thy music too -
While barrèd clouds bloom the soft-dying day,
And touch the stubble-plains with rosy hue:
Then in a wailful choir the small gnats mourn
Among the river sallows, borne aloft
Or sinking as the light wind lives or dies;
And full-grown lambs loud bleat from hilly bourn;
Hedge-crickets sing; and now with treble soft
The red-breast whistles from a garden-croft;
And gathering swallows twitter in the skies.

Qui, qui, amore....di John Keats

Pál Szinyei Merse*1870
♥
Qui, qui amore...
E' un prato ombroso...
Qui, qui amore,
Nutriamoci e nutriamoci!
Qui, qui dolce...
E' un giaciglio di erba...
Qui, qui, dolce!
E' profumato di rugiada!
Qui, qui cara...
Per il respiro della vita...
Qui, qui cara!
Sii la sposa dell'estate!
Sebbene il piacere di un momento
In un momento fugga,
Sebbene il tesoro della passione
In un momento muoia...
Adesso non è ancora passato!
Pensa quant'è vicino, quant'è vicino!
E mentre dura
Pensa com'è bello, com'è bello!
Qui, qui, qui.
Amore questo dono ha inviato...
Se dovessi morire e inaridire,
Morirei contento.

Hither, Hither, Love
HITHER hither, love -
'Tis a shady mead -
Hither, hither, love,
Let us feed and feed!
Hither, hither, sweet -
'Tis a cowslip bed -
Hither, hither, sweet!
'Tis with dew bespread!
Hither, hither, dear -
By the breath of life -
Hither, hither, dear!
Be the summer's wife!
Though one moment's pleasure
In one moment flies,
Though the passion's treasure
In one moment dies;
Yet it has not passed -
Think how near, how near!
And while it doth last,
Think how dear, how dear!
Hither, hither, hither,
Love this boon has sent -
If I die and wither
I shall die content.

Lucente stella di John Keats

Gabriel Cornelius Ritter Von Max*Per Aspera
Lucente stella, esser potessi come te costante -
sentendolo abbassarsi e sollevarsi lento,
in dolce inquietudine e senza mai dormire,
e vivere in eterno - o, in estasi, morire.

BRIGHT STAR
Bright star, would I were stedfast as thou art–
Not in lone splendour hung aloft the night
And watching, with eternal lids apart,
Like nature’s patient, sleepless Eremite,
The moving waters at their priestlike task
Of pure ablution round earth’s human shores,
Or gazing on the new soft-fallen mask
Of snow upon the mountains and the moors–
No–yet still stedfast, still unchangeable,
Pillow’d upon my fair love’s ripening breast,
To feel for ever its soft fall and swell,
Awake for ever in a sweet unrest,
Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,
And so live ever–or else swoon to death.

E nessun uccello canta.
Che cosa t'affligge, cavaliere d'armi,
così addolorato e sofferente?
Pieno è il granaio dello scoiattolo
e la messe è stata raccolta.
Vedo un giglio sulla tua fronte
Madida d'angoscia e di sudore,
E sulla tua guancia una rosa
Sfiorita anch'essa troppo in fretta.»
«Ho incontrato una dama nei prati
Bellissima, figlia di fata;
Lunghi aveva i capelli, il passo leggero
E selvaggio lo sguardo.
Feci un serto per la sua fronte
e braccialetti e profumato un cinto:
Mi guardò come se amasse
E dolce emise un gemito.
Sul mio destriero al passo la posi
E altro non vidi quel giorno
Perchè si sporgeva e cantava
Una canzone fatata.
Per me trovò radici dolci e miele,
La manna come rugiada scese,
E certamente mi disse ti amo
In un linguaggio strano.
Mi portò alla sua grotta fatata
e là pianse e triste sospirò,
Ed io le chiusi gli occhi selvaggi
Con quattro baci.
Lei poi mi addormentò cullandomi
Ed io - sciagurato - sognai
L'ultimo sogno sul fianco
Della collina fredda.
Vidi re pallidi e principi
E guerrieri bianchi di morte;
Gridavano tutti: "La Bella Dama senza Pietà
Ti ha in suo potere."
Vidi le loro labbra scarne nella sera
Aperte orribilmente per il grido,
E qui sveglio mi ritrovai sul fianco
Della collina fredda.
Ecco perchè adesso sto qui
A vagare pallido e solo,
E nessun uccello canta.»

La Belle Dame Sans Merci
Oh what can ail thee, knight-at-arms,
Alone and palely loitering?
The sedge has withered from the lake,
And no birds sing.
Oh what can ail thee, knight-at-arms,
So haggard and so woe-begone?
The squirrel's granary is full,
And the harvest's done.

I see a lily on thy brow,
With anguish moist and fever-dew,
And on thy cheeks a fading rose

Fast withereth too.
I met a lady in the meads,
Full beautiful - a faery's child,
Her hair was long, her foot was light,
And her eyes were wild.

I made a garland for her head,
And bracelets too, and fragrant zone;
She looked at me as she did love,
And made sweet moan.
I set her on my pacing steed,
And nothing else saw all day long,
For sidelong would she bend, and sing
A faery's song.
She found me roots of relish sweet,
And honey wild, and manna-dew,
And sure in language strange she said -
'I love thee true'.
She took me to her elfin grot,
And there she wept and sighed full sore,
And there I shut her wild wild eyes
With kisses four.
And there she lullèd me asleep
And there I dreamed - Ah! woe betide! -
The latest dream I ever dreamt
On the cold hill side.
I saw pale kings and princes too,
Pale warriors, death-pale were they all;
They cried - 'La Belle Dame sans Merci
Thee hath in thrall!'
I saw their starved lips in the gloam,
With horrid warning gapèd wide,
And I awoke and found me here,
On the cold hill's side.
And this is why I sojourn here
Alone and palely loitering,
Though the sedge is withered from the lake,

And no birds sing.

Canzone di John Keats

Caspar David Friedrich
I
Nella notte cupa di dicembre
Tanto felice albero felice
Coi rami che non ricordano
La loro verde felicità:
Il vento non può dissolverli
Sibilando bianco tra loro,
Nè le fredde sgelate trattengono
I germogli di primavera.
II
Nella notte cupa di dicembre
Tanto felice felice ruscello
Per le acque che non ricordano
Lo sguardo caldo del sole
E nell'oblio trattengono
Tormenti di cristallo
Dolci senza lamenti
Al tempo ghiacciato.
III
Oh, fosse così per tanti
Ragazzi e dolci amanti!
Ve n'è mai stato uno
Che non ha pianto al passato?
Percepire il mutamento, sentirlo,
Sapere che nessuno può sanarlo,
Che i sensi non possono indurirlo.
Questo mai è stato detto in poesia.
*****************
SONG
I
In drear-nighted December,
Too happy, happy tree,
Thy branches ne'er remember
Their green felicity:
The north cannot undo them
With a sleety whistle through them;
Nor frozen thawings glue them
 From budding at the prime.
II
In drear-nighted December,
Too happy, happy brook,
Thy bubblings ne'er remember
Apollo's summer look;
But with a sweet forgetting,
They stay their crystal fretting,
Never, never petting
About the frozen time.
III
Ah! would 'twere so with many
A gentle girl and boy!
But were there ever any
Writhed not at passed joy?
To know the change and feel it,
When there is none to heal it,
Nor numbed sense to steel it,
Was never said in rhyme.

Oh, non arrossire di John Keats

Franz Von Stuck
Oh, non arrossir così, non arrossire!
Penserò, altrimenti, che sei troppo ben informata:
Sorridere, mentre arrossisci, è come dire
Come facciamo? Stiamo o andiamo?

Mi hai rapito via l'anima con un potere cui non posso resistere;

eppure potei resistere finché non ti vidi;
